The Mosque at Huajue Lane is the largest in Xi’an and it is also one of the earliest built on a comparatively large scale, and the best preserved mosque in China. This mosque is the major spot for the religious activities of over 100,000 Moslems in Xi’an. The mosque is said to have been built in the Tang Dynasty, around 742AD, but the architectural style of the mosque suggests a possible building dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), unlike Arabic mosque which have splendid domes, minarets reaching into the clouds, colorful engraved sketches with dazzling patterns, the mosque in Xi’an possesses much Chinese tradition in both design and artistic outlook.Different from the Islamic mosque, here has more characteristics of Chinese pavilions, with painted beams and engraved ridgepoles.Peaceful and quiet feeling if you wandering inside the mosque, but so different when you walk around out of the mosque, it’s a busy market , you may see many local snakes and try it,experience the colorful local moslems life.
